It’s Women’s Equality Day

On August 26, 1920, after 72 years of lobbying and protest, women finally won the right to vote in the United States. NOW is asking people to sign this petition to the prospective 2008 presidential candidates, urging them to make women’s equality a major component of their campaigns. Read more here. Also, say a little thank you to uppity women like Alice Paul.

    I learned about her when doing a bit of research about L. Frank Baum. Matilda was his mother-in-law. What an utterly remarkable woman. Indeed, I should have been doing research in the first instance about her! Perhaps we should encourage readers to submit the names of other pioneers in women’s rights and equality…. It’s nice to acknowledge and recall the courage, fortitude and tenacity, the passion and commitment, and yes, the exquisite intelligence, such women exemplified.
