Michelle Obama Watch Reminder

This blog documents the myriad slurs being thrown at Michelle Obama. Rather than replicate efforts, I’ll remind y’all periodically to keep checking it out. Today the blog highlights this Op-Ed called “The Loud Silence of Feminists.”

I was revolted by the ugly misogyny directed against Clinton, including from Supposedly LIberal Doods. But I have misgivings about the white feminists who are vowing to sit out the election, or vote for McCain, by way of a response, if only because the timing strikes me as questionable. One eloquent blogger argued that she’s tired of the Democrats taking women’s votes for granted. It’s a good point that needs to be made. But they took them for granted last time, and the time before that, etc. Isn’t it a little… odd that only now, with a Black man the likely nominee, do we hear voices saying “That’s it, no more”?

Rootlesscosmo, I don’t even know where to begin. Remember Ralph Nader’s candidacy in 2000? That was one prior example of “That’s it, no more” where race was not involved. And I think had Clinton lost to Edwards rather than Obama after a similar campaign, the reaction might have been similar. But who knows.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I will vote for Obama, and I meant it. I also said I’d like to see Obama chose Clinton as his running mate, and I meant that too. At least some of the anger by Clinton supporters is at the Democratic Party machinery, and a united ticket might help address these issues.
