This reminds me, obliquely, of a funny conversation I once overheard at the pharmacy. A customer, holding a container of Metamucil, approached the pharmacist saying, “It says ‘regular flavor’ but it doesn’t say what that is.” It was only much later that I thought of the unfortunate pun on “regular”, which made it even funnier.
I once read that there are big regional differences in the market for mayo vs. “salad dressing” (Miracle Whip). I wonder what’s real about Miracle Whip.
I recall once seeing a map depicting regional preferences for mayonnaise v. Miracle Whip. Roughly speaking, mayonnaise predominated on the Atlantic, Pacific, and Lake Michigan coasts, and MW predominated in the interior. Perhaps it is really sandwich spreads that are at the heart of the culture wars and the red state-blue state divide?

Good one, Eric.
